A 2022 F8 green Challenger R/T Scat Pack only lived for 196 miles before being totaled and ending up at a scrapyard in Ohio. However, despite the comprehensive destruction of the car, the engine and transmission escaped without any major damage, according to the new owners of the car.
We spoke to Tim Mulcahy from Cleveland Power and Performance, the shop where the muscle car ended up, to learn more about the Challenger that landed in his yard. There were no details readily available about the crash that led to the destruction of the muscle car. It was acquired via a Copart auction, and it has a salvage Michigan title. Somehow, the 6.4-liter V-8 Hemi engine and 8HP70 8-speed automatic transmission survived the crash without major damage. Mulcahy estimates that the engine and transmission will likely sell for between $13,500 and $14,000.
Aside from the engine and transmission, a couple of the wheels appear to still be in decent shape and the gauge cluster seems to be working. But this car clearly suffered catastrophic damage. What did it hit? A building? A train? Thanos? Whatever it was, the Dodge must have been traveling at a pretty good speed for every single body panel to resemble a rolled-up ball of tinfoil. The driver paid for 485 horsepower and seemed to be determined to use every last one of them.
Dodge and Stellantis have already announced that the V-8 Challenger and Charger will die after this year. The days of V-8 power from any automaker are limited. We need to cherish those that remain. This 2022 Challenger R/T Scat Pack may have met an untimely demise, but the automotive Gods smiled down on it and saved the engine from destruction. Now you can help it to live on in another car for years to come.
You can build a restomod Dodge with this engine or drop it into a Jeep or if you are a bit more adventurous, stuff it under the hood of a Miata. Your options are nearly endless. No matter what you build, just be careful with all that power. You certainly want your project car to at least cover 200 miles.
