Jrue Holiday goes from Milwaukee to Boston to join Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and the Celtics.

The Boston Celtics capped off an active offseason with the addition of All-Star guard Jrue Holiday, the team officially announced on Sunday.

The former Bucks guard, who helped lead the team to the NBA championship in 2021, was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers as part of the three-team deal that sent Damian Lillard to Milwaukee.

Before the Celtics tip off their 2023-24 season against the New York Knicks on Oct. 25 (7 ET, ESPN), hereÔÇÖs a look at the teamÔÇÖs projected lineup and roster.

Projected starting five:

  • Jrue Holiday
  • Jaylen Brown
  • Jayson Tatum
  • Kristaps Porzingis
  • Al Horford

Key reserves

  • Derrick White
  • Payton Pritchard
  • Luke Kornet
  • Oshae Brissett
  • Sam Hauser

Full roster

Here is the Celtics roster heading into training camp after trading for Holiday.

Guards:

  • Jaylen Brown
  • JD Davison
  • Jrue Holiday
  • Svi Mykhailiuk
  • Payton Pritchard
  • Jay Scrubb
  • DJ Steward
  • Jordan Walsh
  • Derrick White

Forwards:

  • Dalano Banton
  • Oshae Brissett
  • Sam Hauser
  • Kristaps Porzingis
  • Lamar Stevens
  • Jayson Tatum

Centers:

  • Al Horford
  • Luke Kornet
  • Neemias Queta

Holiday moves into the starting point guard spot in Boston that had been held in recent seasons by Marcus Smart, who was sent to Memphis during the offseason in a three-team trade (also including Washington) that brought Kristaps Porzingis to the Celtics.

Smart is a dogged defender. And Holiday is the same. HeÔÇÖs a five-time All-Defensive selection ÔÇö a first-teamer on that team last season ÔÇö who has appeared on defensive player of the year ballots in each of the last three years.

The 33-year-old Holiday was also an All-Star last year for the first time in a decade and is coming off a season in which he averaged 19.3 points and 7.4 assists, both better than his career averages of 16.4 points and 6.5 assists.
